Ten years ago in October I started what would become one of my most cherished recurring events, Whiskey Wednesday. Back then, The Stinking Rose was on a Wednesday night, a quiet place for me to have a drink when I was not busy touring. I had been a patron of the 'pub' for years before as well. I even wrote some of the drum and electronica programming for the last Watchmen record while sitting at a table with my headphones, chain smoking and drinking pints. So it was decided that I would start coming in every Wednesday and sit by the fireplace, alongside the bar and strum a few acoustic tunes. Back then I had little in the way of a repertoire so I would strum out a few classics and take requests from the few locals that hung around for next weeks entertainment. Mostly we drank and had fun.
Shortly thereafter we organized a series of fundraisers to raise cash to install a PA system and from there the music became more and more regular at the pub. Some weeks there was music from Wednesday to Saturday and we saw so many great local and touring acts come through out tiny town with our tiny bar. So I kept at it every Wednesday. Learning new songs and slowly getting to know the locals. I developed friendships, found bandmates, started a label and all of this was in some way spawned from the four walls of what is now called 'That Little Pub." I haven't played there since the lockdown began. I miss my drinking buddies, my close friends and the staff. Most of all I miss the music, sharing what I am working on and the occasional cover with the regulars who have heard me sing This Town Of Mine a few too many times.
So now that I cannot head out to what I call "my favourite living room" I have adjusted things around. Now we have Whiskey Wednesday online. Every Wednesday from Storey House Studios you can catch me or sometimes the band as we kill an hour or so making music for you all. Feel free to tune in and a lot of the videos are linked in our Video section as well.
Hope everybody is good out there... See you on Wednesday.
